We are a software engineering consultancy that helps companies bring valuable software products to market through development, coaching and workshops.

We take a holistic approach to software product development. From our experience in helping numerous software-enabled organisations, we know that there are multiple dimensions to great software engineering cultures.

Therefore, we don’t only focus on individual areas like DevOps or individual methods like Scrum, but also consider a variety of approaches to team culture, processes, software design, environment and organisational structure, product management, automation and release practices.

We Offer

Software Development

We build software solutions that drive industries forward. This gets us up in the morning! We actively build mobile- and cloud-based software products, targeting iOS, Android and new generation web platforms.

Having built our own products, we intimately know what is required to optimise the features and experience for the market. We work closely with our clients and help them uncover the most effective and innovate ways to solve their problems – and then develop a working iteration as soon as possible.

Our development team also uses the same practices advocated during our coaching engagements to deliver software to our customers early, frequently and cost-effectively.

We have built consumer software products, targeting numerous sectors, including citizen science, agriculture and social media. Our recent projects include the following:

  • Tracks4Africa: A guide for overland adventurers in Southern Africa on iPad and iPhone. (This was a top grossing app on the South African app store.)
  • BirdLasser: We are co-founders of South Africa’s top bird watching and conversation platform, which has over 2,000,000 recorded sightings.
  • Cognadev: A psychometric assessment platform and automation sophisticated assessment scoring.
  • Androver: A beacon-based checklist platform on Android.
  • Encentivize: We worked with Entelect on a vouchering system called Enigma.

Coaching and Mentoring

Coaching is a powerful catalyst for team performance.

We coach organisations and teams to help them improve their delivery efficiency, quality, environment and overall excellence. As part of this work, we empower them with the ability to identify and adopt the best principles and practices for their respective environments.

Our key differentiator is that we focus on the entire software life cycle and not just on individual areas, such as product management or testing. We believe that the highest value comes from optimising the whole and not just from individual parts.

As such, we incorporate thinking from various frameworks, such as The Lean Startup, Principles of Product Development Flow, Continuous Delivery, Extreme Programming, User Story Mapping, Scrum, Kanban and Lean Software Development.

We have been fortunate enough to enjoy great success in our engagements and managed to guide our team to attain excellent results. To name a few, we:

  • Improved team cohesion and happiness;
  • Made cycle-time improvements of weeks or shorter, where it previously took months;
  • Made output increases of between 50% and 200% and ensured dramatic drops in defect rates; and
  • Created more value, while building much less.

Training and Workshops

Our training programmes grew out of our own experiences in bridging the gap between the theoretical ideals and practical realities in the complex endeavour of software engineering. We realised that most academic courses do not sufficiently equip software engineers with the thinking tools required to be effective in the workplace and so we developed our practitioner-mentor lead courses to bridge this gap.

We equip developers with the leading practices, techniques and tools required to increase their effectiveness in the workplace.

Our material has been proven over the last five years and covers various relevant areas of modern software engineering. To date, we have trained over 300 people at leading software organisations in our courses, covering agile methods, applied software design and modern development practices.
